About me

Based in Auckland, I am a highly qualified mediator, Family Dispute Resolution Provider and conflict management coach, accredited both in New Zealand and internationally. An associate member of both the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, I am also a professional member of the Resolution Institute, and a member of the International Mediation Institute. I work face-to-face in Auckland and online, nationally and internationally.

Professional background

Called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2007 as a Prince of Wales Scholar of Gray’s Inn, I hold a PhD in Law and a qualification in conflict management coaching. I have held academic positions at leading universities in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. This combination of academic excellence, practical legal expertise, and insight into conflict dynamics is supported by strong interpersonal and communication skills. Until 2022, I was a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Auckland. As a respected legal academic, my work has been published extensively in leading international journals, and I have authored books with globally recognised publishers.

Now working full-time in alternative dispute resolution, I continue to maintain an academic presence as a Senior Visiting Fellow in Alternative Dispute Resolution at the University of Reading in the UK.

My approach

A magnifying glass focusing on a colorful twisted rope among many tangled multicolored ropes.

My approach to mediation is grounded in real-world pragmatism. Combining a strong legal background and conflict coaching skills, I bring a balanced approach to mediation that never loses sight of the human element at the heart of every dispute.

My legal expertise enables me to quickly grasp the core issues and navigate complex legal and procedural frameworks, without providing legal advice. With a strong understanding of family conflict dynamics, I am skilled at helping parties shift unproductive dynamics and unhelpful patterns of communication, and develop strategies for approaching future interactions more constructively.

The result is a process that not only supports durable, practical, and child-focused outcomes, but also strengthens clients’ capacity to manage conflict well beyond the mediation room.
